CLOUD SOLUTIONS
Software-defined networking (SDN), network functions virtualization (NFV), and network virtualization (NV) are giving us new ways to design, build and operate networks. Over the past two decades, we have seen tons of innovation in the devices we use to access the network, the applications and services we depend on to run our lives, and the computing and storage solutions we rely on to hold all that “big data” for us.
However, the underlying network that connects all of these things has remained virtually unchanged. The reality is that demands of the exploding number of people and devices using the network are stretching its limits.
SDN, NFV, network virtualization, and white box networking (bare metal switching) are all complementary approaches. They each offer a new way to design deploy and manage the network and its services:
SDN: separates the network’s control (brains) and forwarding (muscle) planes and provides a centralized view of the distributed network for more efficient orchestration and automation of network services.
NFV: focuses on optimizing the network services themselves. NFV decouples the network functions, such as DNS, caching, etc., from proprietary hardware appliances, so they can run in software to accelerate service innovation and provisioning, particularly within service provider environments.
NV: ensures the network can integrate with and support the demands of virtualized architectures, particularly those with multi-tenancy requirements.
White Box: uses network devices, such as switches and routers, that as based on “generic” merchant silicon networking networking chipset available for anyone to buy, as opposed to proprietary silicon chips designed by and for a single networking vendor.

DESIGN
I started designing as I had a look of thoughts I wanted to pen them, and came out really good... the journey began and I make sure to always serve a mix of the most crucial components; well crafted strategy and conceptual work leading products with high end technology and passionate, user centered design. All of these parts of the process are definitely what I would call my core competencies, and the advertising, digital as well as design community in general agrees.

If Design is thoughts the code is poetry...Great artists understand the value of perfecting craftmanship, learning to live the tools of their trade. My toolset includes html5, custom CMS, love for css3 and modern ingredients such as Node, Backbone and Angular. This toolset combined with our admiration for code poets makes sure that we end up creating digital monuments

How to Run Junos Virtual Wireless LAN Controller (JunosV WLC) in KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine)

Here's how to run JunosV Wireless LAN Controller in Linux KVM.

  1. Download the JunosV WLC VM image tgz file.

  2. Extract the OVA and VMDK files:

Extract OVA file from the tgz file:

    tar -xvf WC091006.V.tgz

The OVA file that gets extracted, is just a tar file so you can just untar it to get the VMDK file:

    Extract the VMDK:

    tar -xvf WLCV0-for-VMware-ESXi.ova
  3. Copy the VMDK disk image to your KVM host:

    scp VM1-WLCV-single-disk.vmdk root@[kvm host ip]:/VM1-WLCV-single-disk.vmdk
  4. Convert the VMDK disk image format to a RAW disk image (or qcow2, depending on your preference) on your KVM host:

    RAW Conversion:
    qemu-img convert -f vmdk -O raw VM1-WLCV-single-disk.vmdk vwlc001.img

    QCOW2 Conversion:

    qemu-img convert -f vmdk -O qcow2 VM1-WLCV-single-disk.vmdk vwlc001.qcow2
  5. Create the VWLC VM using the RAW disk image you converted, with the following settings (these are my settings since we are running MSS v9.1). You can leave other settings to their default, just make sure your NIC is set to the proper interface (whether you've set the switch port side as a trunk or access port):
    • CPU: 1
    • RAM: 2048 MB
    • Display VNC
      • Type: VNC
      • Address: 127.0.0.1
      • Port: 5900
      • Password: (no password)
      • Keymap: en-us (This is your keyboard layout, depending on what you use).

Once you've got the VM powered on and running, follow the rest of the JunosV WLC installation or configuration guide using admin/(no password) as the default login.

Just to note:

1. I'm running Mac OS X, so you may need to install cywin if you're running Windows (make sure you install the tar and scp packages). Of course, you can use you're own preferred tools to extract and transfer the files you need to your KVM host anyway you like.

2. This setup may be unsupported by Juniper.

3. From looking at the VWLC boot process, it looks like the VWLC VM runs CentOS but I haven't been able to get access into the Linux shell from within the MSS prompt.

4. If you plan on running Mac OS X to manage your VMs, make sure you've got XQuartz/X11 installed.

Run: "ssh -X root@[kvm host ip]" in your terminal and then run "virt-manager" on your KVM host once logged in, to forward the X-windows GUI to your local screen.

If you have trouble with escaping your mouse from within Virtual Manager, you'll probably have to create an .Xmodmap file in your home directory using the following:

clear Mod1
keycode 66 = Alt_L
keycode 69 = Alt_R
add Mod1 = Alt_L
add Mod1 = Alt_R

This will allow you to escape your mouse by pressing the left CONTROL and ALT/OPTION keys at the same time.
